The Triangles Get Spain Dancing
Posted: 29 June, 2010
A couple of weeks back, we told you about Melbourne indie-pop outfit The Triangles' storming of Spain, via their infectious track Applejack, which was featured, in rerecorded form, in a major Spanish advertising campaign for beer company Estrella Damm.
To say Applejack, which spent a couple of weeks atop the Spanish itunes singles charts, has captured the public imagination would be an understatement. A number of unofficial clips for the track have been recorded, and among them all, a clear favourite has emerged. Well, a favourite had emerged, until we saw this insane new clip.
Set at some local festival/enormous block party/avant equestrian event, it features men with jousting sticks astride beautiful horses. The men are looking to hook precious rings with their jousting sticks, a goal which sees them veer wildly into people who crowd the narrow path. When the craziness reaches fever pitch, a huge band launches into Applejack and everyone, young and old, sings along. It has to be seen to be believed:
The other clip, which you can watch below, features a whole schoolyard full of kids and their teachers –– as well as what may or may not be a zombie –– doing an incredibly sweet choreographed dance routine.
In a comment on the clip's youtube page, The Triangles agree that this is their favorite rendition of the song. (They also ask about the mysterious smiling zombie behind the kids.)
The official clip for the song, meanwhile, is heading toward an incredible 2 million views, while making people everywhere want to be young and Spanish and ridiculously attractive.
'To be invited over to Spain to appear in the clip itself was just incredible,' The Triangles' Kath Simpson recently told Mess & Noise. 'When we were recording the song a few years back, we never dreamed it would be topping any charts, here or overseas.'
To get hold of a copy of the rerecorded Applejack used in the TVC, head on over to itunes.
