On the Roof: Aleks and the Ramps
Posted: 05 January, 2012
Late last year, we started working with one of our favourite bands, Aleks and the Ramps. The Melbourne experimental pop quintet have been around since 2005, during which time they've put out two albums and an EP of thoroughly unpredictable, wonderfully skewed pop music.
On Valentine's Day this year, Aleks and the Ramps will release their third album, Facts, via Gaga Digi. Having listened to it roughly 100 times in the past couple of months, we can say this: Facts is a strikingly good pop record, a full-to-bursting combination of sharp left turns, sublime melodies, and Aleks' deadpan, gloriously strange and often hilarious lyrics.
Aleks and the Ramps recently popped by our offices to star in the first episode of our new On the Roof video series. In the friscalating dusklight, the band premiere the great title track from the new album and try to speak French. Check it out below:
You can listen to the two already released singles from Aleks and the Ramps' new album in our player above, and, while you're at it, watch the great video for the most recent single, Middle Aged Unicorn On Beach With Sunset.
We'll have more On the Roof sessions for you very soon, featuring the likes of Big Scary and Kate Martin. Stay tuned!
