Kate Martin and Band Release First Single From New Lp
Posted: 02 September, 2011
In 2010, Townsville pop chanteuse Kate Martin released her gorgeous debut album, Synthetic Shoes, Leather Boots. Though only 19 when the album was released, Martin had already had a long history with music: she began playing music when she was three, and spent much of her early years teaching herself every instrument she could find.
Synthetic Shoes was an eclectic and wide ranging exploration of Martin's diverse musical influences and considerable instrumental talents, and won her much acclaim.
Since the release of her debut lp, Martin has kept herself busy writing and recording, swapping the acoustic guitar that featured so heavily on her first lp for an old Stratocaster she found in a junk shop. She's also formed and reformed a band, now known as The Shallowsea Choir, which whom she's recorded her much awaited sophomore lp.
Apples is the gorgeous first single from Martin's new album. A beautifully paced, intricately played song, shot through with subtle instrumental flourishes and coloured with rich harmonies, it's a thoroughly inviting window into Martin's new sound. Have a listen to the track below, and pick up a copy on iTunes.

Apples is out now on Outer Records/Gaga Digi. A second single will follow in 2011; the lp will be out in February 2012.
