Dragging Pianos is the mostly one man project of Townsville native Sam Rowe. In 2009, Dragging Pianos debuted with the quietly remarkable The Food Chain ep. Recorded in late 2008 with a 40-year-old tape deck, a laptop and a single microphone, The Food Chain's five tracks move through a series of interwoven stories which cover, by turns, the every day and the eternal, with stories of peeling carrots sitting alongside tales of being swallowed by great ocean birds.

Aided by members of fellow Townsville outfit The Middle East, Rowe's graceful, unhurried compositions blend piano, keyboards and accordions with field recordings of bees and birds and dogs, the hushed beauty of the songs melding elements of country, experimental folk and straight up pop into a seamless, beguiling whole.
