In 2010, in an unrenovated shack beneath the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne's west, three friends began playing together –– their two guitars and drums belting out acid-garage, prog-punk riff jamboree that somehow combined Neu!, Devo and Black Sabbath.

Soon after, the trio added synth and bass, and the space-rock juggernaut Baptism Of Uzi was born, the new band's sound driven by a heady combination of motorik beats, twin lead guitarmonies and rich analog synth-scapes.

BoU's first recordings surfaced soon after, with Dictaphonium 1, the first EP in a series of lo-fi home experiments, launched to a packed Melbourne crowd. Word began to spread about the quintet's fearsome live show, glimpsed by many for the first time at the relaunch of Melbourne's iconic Tote Hotel.

In late 2010, BoU went into the studio to try capture some of the magic of their live show. The fruit of this labour is the remarkable seven-track Cassette EP, out now via Gaga Digi.

The new ep is BoU's most sonically rich recording yet, a dynamic snapshot of the band's ever-evolving psych rock landscape that captures the might of the band in performance. But don't just take our word for it: have a listen to the full ep below.

The Cassette EP is available now over at our Bandcamp, and will be out through iTunes later this week. The ep is also available in physical form on a very fetching orange cassette, via Full On Idle.

Speaking of, BoU will be launching the Cassette EP on Friday 25 March at The Tote, with support from Yis, High Tea and Buried Feather, in what promises to a pretty enormous evening of wholesome, mind-altering entertainment. Check out the poster below.
