We're extremely pleased to welcome to the Digi and Pub folds one of our new favourite bands: Melbourne-by-way-of-Cairns blues-rock juggernaut Drunk Mums.

The four piece have just released the awesome new single, Rubbing Your Gums, from their forthcoming debut album. Have a listen:

Though they now call Melbourne's west their home, Drunk Mums started out a fair way further north –– in Australia's northern tropics, to be precise, four friends organising gigs at their friends' places in Cairns because there was nowhere else to play.

Drunk Mums' amazing racket –– think surf music, but dirt instead of sand, or a kind of loose, slightly crazed garage rock –– soon saw them make their way to the US, where their adventures included being robbed of everything (van, passports) in Miami.

After the US, the foursome settled in a run down two storey mansion in Melbourne, quickly developing a name for themselves around town with their meaty, raucous, succinct songs and formidable live show.

With three different writers in the band, Drunk Mums songs are never short on ideas or sounds. Inspired by The Mummies, The Angels and The Hives, the band's sound could perhaps best be described as what the Brian Johnestown Massacre might sound like if they saw sunshine more than once a year.

In 2011, Drunk Mums released their debut ep, Eventual Ghost, a great distillation of everything that makes the raucous Queenslanders such an exciting thing. Eventual Ghost is out now on Gaga Digi. Check out the clip for the title track below:

2012 has been a big year for the band so far: after winning the Very West contest, for bands from Melbourne's western suburbs, Drunk Mums won a slot on the Melbourne's Laneway Festival, where they duly put on a ripping set. This, with their well received EP, has led to increasing interest in their adopted home town, and shows with the likes of Bass Drum of Death (USA), Bleeding Knees Club and Mickey Avalon (USA).

Live, the band is something to behold: combustible, hypnotising and heartily encouraging lewd behaviour, it must be seen to be believed.

Drunk Mums' much anticipated debut album will be out very soon on Gaga Digi –– stay tuned.
